Little Latin Readers Set, Primer B 

This set includes the Little Latin Reader, Workbook, and Drill Book. The second primer introduces the student to slightly more difficult sentences and longer paragraphs. Among other activities, the student is trained to modify first declension masculine nouns with adjectives so the student can quickly and easily distinguish between feminine and masculine endings. Major emphasis is given in this primer to second declension masculine and neuter nouns. The genitive case of the first and second declension is also introduced, especially the use of nouns of possession are introduced. The student will learn more prepositions and a rich variety of new vocabulary words. In the workbook, the student will learn singular and plural endings for the nominative, genitive, accusative and ablative cases, will achieve a solid understanding of various noun functions, will study the the three genders of nouns, and will have many chances to identify these important sentence elements: subject, predicate nominative, predicate adjective, nouns of possession, prepositional phrases, adjective phrases, being verbs and transitive verbs. The Reader is small format (5-1/2” x 8-1/2”) and has 51 pages. Translations included. The 52-page Workbook gives a more in-depth explanation of the grammar and provides plenty of exercises and drills of grammar concepts. Also included: complete answer key and a 14-week suggested lesson plan. 8-1/2” x 11” (Optional) The drill set extends the explanations and exercises presented in the workbooks. Each lesson begins with the student copying in cursive all essential grammar definitions and rules. English words derived from the Latin vocabulary words are included to help the student learn to recognize Latin roots in English words. In some cases, extended explanations and practice sentences are given to enrich the student’s understanding of grammatical concepts. As an example, in the introductory level, short sentences with first declension nouns from the Latin Vulgate Bible, the Liber Usualis and the writings of the saints are presented as models for the student to copy and memorize if desired.
